Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) is an innovative and progressive healthcare organization that provides quality health services to more than 300,000 Halton residents. The staff and physicians at HHS take pride in the compassionate hospital-based health services that their hospitals provide to their growing communities.
Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital has offered quality health services to the Oakville and Clarkson communities for more than 50 years. We are actively planning for a new hospital in Oakville which is scheduled to open in 2013. Short distances north are Milton District and Georgetown Hospitals, which serve the residents of Milton and Halton Hills. Together, our hospitals offer the following core health services: Medicine (including ICU and a Regional Renal Dialysis Program), Surgery, Mental Health, Rehabilitation/Geriatrics, Maternal/Child (including a Level II Nursery), Emergency/Ambulatory Care and the Milton and Georgetown Family Practice Programs.
In 2007, HHS was once again awarded full accreditation status by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation. In their final report, the surveyors noted that the organization has achieved a number of successes and specifically noted that HHS has "done a great job of ensuring that the sites are a reflection of the communities."
HHS also achieved Level 2 of the National Quality Institute's Progressive Excellence Program which demonstrates workplace excellence and acknowledges HHS' commitment to developing a healthy, safe workplace - one which promotes employee involvement as well as open communication.
Enjoy a Broad Range of Challenges
Our 1,200 nurses are integral members of an interprofessional health care team who help meet the needs of our patients in a timely and effective manner.
As part of the MOHLTC’s New Graduate Guarantee, HHS offers its new RNs and RPNs an enhanced supernumary and competency-based orientation program that is a combination of classroom, clinical tutorship and preceptored learning experiences.
We believe this approach offers the new orientee with a comprehensive introduction to the organization and to the individual units. In addition to the exciting challenges of direct patient care, we offer our nurses an opportunity to become involved in all aspects of the organization including our committees and unit-based council structures.
Grow Your Career
HHS supports life long learning and provides opportunities to support staff logistically and financially. We are currently offering an on site Diploma to BScN Program in partnership with Ryerson University. Nurses pursuing other learning opportunities are also supported by the hospital. For approved courses, Halton Healthcare will provide 100% financial support up front and make every effort to accommodate required schedule changes. As nurses continue to enhance their skills and pursue their formal education, they have an opportunity to advance in their careers at Halton Healthcare. Additionally, we are constantly adding to our growing library of e-learning tools that staff can access 24/7.
Fostering a Spirit of Innovation
HHS nurses contribute their knowledge, skills and insights by spearheading or participating in innovative initiatives that lead to the ongoing advancement of care delivery. In the past year, almost 400 nurses participated in wound and skin care workshops and are actively engaged in a robust pressure ulcer prevention program. Similarly, nurses are taking a leadership role in the implementation of best practices in pain management and numerous Safer Healthcare Now initiatives.
Our forward-thinking approach is also reflected in the leading-edge equipment and technologies available to nurses. Nurses use such tools as a computerized documentation system, the Emergency Department’s patient tracking board/system and portable wireless patient monitors to enhance their daily practice and better treat their patients.
Live the Lifestyle
HHS is committed to promoting a healthy environment by offering a comprehensive wellness program, including on-site fitness centers and wellness counseling, massage, tai chi and yoga, team-building games, stress-reduction workshops and a free wellness lending library.
“We have three great community hospitals – where our nurses and other healthcare professionals have opportunities to develop professionally and advance in the organization,” explains Marlene Hall, HHS Director of Human Resources. “And from the Oakville harbour to the parklands of the Niagara Escarpment, our Halton communities offer an attractive family-oriented lifestyle with an abundance of recreational opportunities. Make Halton your home and workplace – grow your career and live the lifestyle.”
