RNs and RPNs play a key role in planning, coordinating and evaluating patient care in a Total Patient Care model through:
Supporting patients and families to identify their needs and set care goals
Close collaboration with physicians, specialists and other disciplines
Input into new clinical practices, clinical pathways and best practice guidelines through representation on Nursing Professional Practice Council
Broad range of clinical and independent experiences
Nurses receive a corporate orientation followed by unit specific orientation based on individual learning needs. Orientation includes mentoring, coaching and self directed learning as well as training on the Electronic Patient Record (EPR). The Lab Information System, Pharmacy System and PACS (filmless imaging) connect seamlessly to our Electronic Patient Record and provide real time results. The MHA provides generous support for learning opportunities, internally and externally, including tuition support. Additionally, the relationship with the nearby academic teaching centres allows for the sharing of knowledge and opportunities for enhanced training. We support the provincial nursing initiatives and offer the opportunity for new nursing grads starting their career with the MHA to participate in the Nursing Graduate Guarantee.
