Congratulations on your career choice. Now that you’ve decided nursing is for you, the next step is joining the professional association that represents nursing in Ontario.
When you sign up as a member of RNAO, you are joining more than 33,000 RNs and registered nursing students who share a commitment to improving the nursing profession and healthy diet the health of the public. RNAO influences government and employers’ decisions, enriches nurses’ knowledge of the profession, develops leadership and networking opportunities for RNs, and promotes continuous professional development.

Policy and political action expertise
RNAO champions issues that affect RNs, health-care delivery, and the health of Ontarians. We advocate for Medicare and other healthy public policies by ensuring nurses’ voices are heard in public debates. RNAO is in regular contact with the Minister of Health, the Premier, and opposition leaders and their staff.
Our Best Practice Guidelines (BPG) program offers nurses evidence-based tools to enhance their practice. The purpose of the program is to support nurses by providing them with the best evidence for client care in areas such as asthma control, smoking cessation, pain management, diabetes, and role play toys breastfeeding. We believe the BPGs will be invaluable as you begin your career. RNAO’s BPGs are well regarded. They have been implemented in hundreds of health-care organizations provincially, nationally and internationally.
Leadership development and networking
Involvement in your local chapter, region or interest group will hone your leadership skills, advance your career, and connect you with influential nursing colleagues. Your RNAO membership also means automatic membership in the Canadian Nurses Association and the International Council of Nurses.

|Communications and outreach
RNAO provides customized communications support so nurses can promote nursing and health-care issues with reporters in their area. Members receive Registered Nurse Journal, the association’s bimonthly magazine. Members can take also network using RNAO’s Face book and Twitter accounts.
Professional development and educational opportunities
We have an annual career fair and your membership also means reduced rates for many RNAO workshops and conferences. We also have a great new website www.careersinnursing.ca that offers new nursing grads a one-stop shop for all their nursing career needs.
