   Toronto Grace Health Centre

Nurses at The Salvation Army Toronto Grace Health Centre provide expert compassionate care to some of the most vulnerable in our society. Our clinical programs include complex continuing care, slow-paced rehabilitation and palliative care.

Empowering Nurses

Formalized preceptorship programs support new employees. All of our patient care delivery models embrace person-centred care, personal accountability, effective communications and collaborative practice. Nurses participate as teachers and learners at in-services, conferences and grand rounds. Through participation in committees such as Inter-professional Practice, Quality Steering, Patient Safety, Joint Occupational Health and Safety, Infection Control, Ethics, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, nursing contributions extend throughout the organization.

Supporting Education

Professional development is a core competency for nurses at Toronto Grace. We promote a spirit of inquiry with lots of just-in-time learning exchanges between staff and practice leaders. The health centre provides financial assistance for workshops, seminars, conferences and specialty nursing certifications, as well as tuition for college and university courses. Nursing leadership programs help RNs improve their leadership skills; professional skills development programs assist RPNs in exercising their full scope of practice.

Evidence-Based Practice

Toronto Grace fully supports evidence-based best practices across clinical disciplines. We actively pursue and implement appropriate evidence-based practice guidelines and support registered nurses to attend the RNAO Best Practice Champions Program. On-site seminars support evidence-based practice in areas such as skin care, wound care and bowel and pain management.

What makes the Grace unique:
  • Our patient mix: complex continuing care,
slow-paced rehabilitation, palliative care
  • Longer stay patients lead to meaningful relationships
  • Assignments allow time for holistic nursing
  • Time and financial support for continuous learning
  • A leadership team that gets to know and care about you
  • Teams committed to clinical excellence and person-centred care
  • High staff attendance; low turnover
