Ontario Shores employs more than 500 nurses. We recognize psychiatric-mental health nursing as a specialized domain of nursing practice, education and research, with the therapeutic nurse-patient relationship as the core component.
As an integral component of the interprofessional team, nurses at Ontario Shores practice within the Collaborative Recovery Model to promote hope, autonomy, self-determination and patient participation in the care provided. Working in partnership with patients, their families, other community hospitals and social service agencies, our nurses are guided by the principle that recovery is an individual process where patient autonomy is supported and is built on a foundation of interprofessional collaboration.
A Diversity of Work Experiences
Ontario Shores offers a broad range of specialized inpatient and outpatient services through the following clinical programs: Adolescent and Young Adults/ Dual Diagnosis; Forensics; Assessment and Reintegration; Geriatric and Neuropsychiatry Program; Outpatient Services and Integrated Health Services.
Nurses collaborate with patients and their families and work in partnership with the interprofessional team to develop individualized treatment plans. The goal of Nursing is to work with patients to help them achieve their health objectives and regain their independence: the focus of care is a strength-based recovery model, and includes value identification, collaborative visioning, goal striving, action planning and monitoring.
